Foo FightersFoo Fighters is a rock group whose music belongs to the alternative rock, post-grudge and hard rock music genre. The band’s name comes from a term which heavily became popular during the Second World War. A “foo fighter,” refers to mysterious aerial phenomena which were seen over the skies in Europe and the Pacific during the war.

Foo Fighters was formed by Dave Grohl after spending four years as a drummer for Nirvana. After Grohl got former Sunny Day Real Estate bass player, Nate Mendel, drummer, William Goldsmith and Pat Smear as the band’s second guitarist, the Foo Fighters were completed. Only Gohl and Mendel remain among the band’s original members at present along with Taylor Hawkins, (touring drummer for Alanis Morisette,) and Chris Shiflett. Another member, Franz Stahl, stayed with Foo Fighters for two years from 1997 to 1999 as lead guitarist.

On July 4, 1995, Foo Fighters released their self-titled album, “Foo Fighters,” under Roswell/Capitol Records. The said album ranked significantly in major album charts all throughout the world. Also its singles, “This Is A Call,” “I’ll Stick Around,” “For All The Cows,” and “Big Me” ranked significantly in major singles charts all throughout the world. The said album has sold over a million copies in the U.S.

“The Colour and the Shape” is Foo Fighters’ second album. It was released on May 20, 1997 under Roswell/Capitol Records. Again the album and four of its singles, (“Monkey Wrench,” “Everlong,” “My Hero,” and “Walking After You,”) ranked significantly in major album charts all throughout the world. “The Colour And The Shape” has sold more than 2 million copies in the U.S. as of 1995.

On November 2, 1999, Foo Fighters released its third album, “There Is Nothing Left to Lose,” this time under RCA. For the third time, their record and four of its singles, (“Learn To Fly,” “Stacked Actors,” “Breakout,” and “Next Year,”) ranked significantly in major album charts all throughout the world. “There Is Nothing Left to Lose” won the Grammy award in 2000 for the Best Rock Album.

Foo Fighters released its fourth album, “One By One,” under RCA, on October 22, 2002. Like the albums it preceded, the fourth one and three of its singles, (“All My Life,” “Times Like These,” and “Low,”) ranked significantly in major album charts all throughout the world. “One By One” won the Best Rock Album in the 2003 Grammy awards while the single, “All My Life,” won the Best Hard Rock Performance in the 2002 Grammy awards.
