Incubus was formed in 1991 by Brandon, Jose, Mike and former member Alex. They got their name from a word Mike found in a thesaurus. “Incubus” actually refers to the name of a demon in western medieval legend which takes upon the male form and has supposedly has sexual intercourse with sleeping women.
On November 1, 1995, Incubus publicly released its first album which the group itself produced under their label, “Stopuglynailfungus Music On Chillum.” It was re-released under Sony 6 days later. The record falls under the alternative and experimental rock, funk core and most especially funk metal music genres.
On September 9, 1997, Incubus released their second album, “S.C.I.E.N.C.E.,” which at present has sold about 740,000 copies already. Like the group’s previous album, “S.C.I.E.N.C.E.” falls under the alternative and experimental rock and funk metal music genres.
On October 26, 1999, Incubus released their third album, “Make Yourself,” which would eventually go on to be certified platinum in the U.S. Important singles in the album include “Pardon Me,” which would rank third and seventh in 1999 in the Modern Rock Tracks and Mainstream Rock Tracks charts respectively, “Stellar,” which would rank second and seventeenth in 2000 in the Modern Rock Tracks and Mainstream Rock Tracks charts respectively again, and finally “Drive,” which would rank first, eighth and ninth in the Modern Rock Tracks, Mainstream Rock Tracks and Billboard Hot 100 charts respectively. “Make Yourself” itself ranked number 47 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and has already sold more than 2 million albums to date.
On October 23, 2001, Incubus released their fourth album “Morning View,” which would turn out to be their last album released under Sony. Nonetheless, the alternative rock album bannered the singles, “Wish You Were Here” in 2001, and “Nice To Know You,” “Warning” and “Circles” in 2002 and ranked second on the U.S. Billboard 200. The record itself has sold 2.7 million copies to date already.
Incubus’ next 2 albums were to be released under Epic Records and Immortal Records. “A Crow Left of the Murder” was released on February 3, 2004. It debuted at number 2 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and carries the controversial song “Megalomaniac” and “Talk Shows On Mute.” The band’s next and latest album, “Light Grenades,” would eventually debut at number 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 when it was released on November 28, 2006. “Light Grenades carries the singles, “Anna Molly” and “Dig.”

Incubus are one of the best for me and they have amazing talent, my only dissapointment with them is the order they put there songs in on their albums. for eg. Morning View would have been much better if it was ordered in such a way. Light Grenades would have been amazing if they added the two bonus tracks on instead of Rogues and Pendulous threads which both lost the structure of the album towards the end. Awesome band, make more albums. They are underated big time | |
